BiRL is a recently formed research group at the Mahasarakham University (MSU), hosted by the School of Computer Science, Faculty of Informatics.
Bioinformatics focuses on the education, research and development, and human-resource training in bioinformatics at MSU. Bioinformatics is developing computational methods for collecting, handling and analyzing biological data. Research in bioinformatics ranges from formulating models and theories about biological systems, to constructing algorithms and developing computer programs. It requires expertise in many traditional disciplines including biology, molecular biology, statistics, physics, chemistry, and computer science. We are engaged in a diverse range of bioinformatics activities ranging from the development of statistical models and computational algorithms to analysis of biological data at the DNA, RNA and protein levels in a variety of species.
We have strong emphasis on development and implementation of efficient algorithms and statistical modeling of biological and medical problems, based e.g. on the principles of molecular evolution and system biology. In addition, a number of other comparative genomic studies are also underway.
